As each property in Western Australia becomes compliant with the RCD / safety switch legislation, it is imperative that each property have these devices tested on a regular basis. RCDs are not failsafe and it is recommended that testing occurs at monthly intervals. This is critical in knowing that these life saving devices will work as they should in a time of need.
In the event of a failure of the device, this monthly testing will ensure that the problem is detected and rectified quickly to prevent potential death or damage to the property and possessions.
The way to test RCDs is by manually pushing the 'Test' button on each RCD (these are located in the switchboard) and ensuring it goes to the off position. If this does not occur, the RCD is faulty and will need to be replaced.
